Wood stove hearth, flooring

To the left you see a wood stove surround and hearth built with Pritchard Slate Flagstone.  The beautiful coloring is from oxidation of iron ore.  The art deco style was designed by G Karl Marcus.  These pictures were taken before the work was completed, but reflect the beauty of the stone very well.

Oxidation of the iron in this stone creates a warm array of earth-tones.  Thin Pritchard Slate Flagstone is ideally suited for entryways and walls where weight is a consideration.  This material is available in thicknesses of 1/4" to 4".

Pritchard Iron Slate Flagstone stair treads

Above, Pritchard Ledgestone Stair Treads laid up as it came from the quarry.  Simple and elegant, as well as very low maintenance.  These stones have some roughness, so they are not slippery when wet.
